At the 2006 Paul from West Mids Police presented on SatNav forensics, but is anyone actually using this yet? Has anyone actually gone to court with evidence from a SatNav? If so, was it accepted, or dismissed?

Please advise,

Simon

Eman,

Tell us what you have been doing up there then will you?

From what I understand, TOM TOM is simply UNIX code on the memory cards? Is this the case?

Hi everyone,
I am writing my masters degree dissertation on forensic analysis for sat nav using TomTom 530 and One Europe as case study.
Please can anyone help me?
I understand that I will get help here since TomTom acquisition and analysis project has been done but not widely acceptable yet.
I also want help on how to open a .dat file as the user information are stored as .dat file in the TomTom memory.
Thanks.
Deb.

Hi there,
I'm new here. I would like to read out the triplog files in a TomTom device.
Did anybody manage this?

Greetings
Joe

Joe,

The 'daddies' in this arena are Andy and Paul. They have some incredibly good, (and I believe the only) software that they have written which will give you most of the information that you need.

Their website is www dot forensicnavigation dot com

I hope that helps?

Regards,

Simon

I have to agree with Simon. I have spent the better part of six months researching solutions for analyzing TomTom devices. Andy and Paul have created an awesome product with TomTology.

Several of us that have been doing SatNav or GPS forensics for a long time have gotten together and started a site dedicated to sharing our knowledge on the subject. It is just getting started but should be running pretty strong within the next month or so.

We should have the TomTom page up by the end of the week fully explaining target files, seizure techniques, common terms, analytical methods, etc... I hope you guys will participate as much as possible and share your experiences.
