View Full Version : laptop not booting up + 2 more points

Ill try and get this right first time round...

my laptop hangs when its booting up, when i go through step by step it gets to mvp.sys or mup.sys then thats it (running win xp)

i beleive i may be able to sort this using the recovery disk (for the life of me I cant find the recovery disk...)

im getting online by running ubuntu linux from the cd

id also like advice (should i not get the above sorted)
can i access the data on my ntfs partition from with my linux environment

and 3
my other laptop, just up and running with bare xp, wont boot from cd to install linux (bios settings set to cd)...any ideas gurus

hi 'tim

1: chase up your supplier if u can't find the re install/repair cd.

2: yes u can see an ntfs partiton using linux, altho i can't vouch directly for ubuntu. usually the problem with some flavours of linux is that it can't write to ntfs.

have you tried verifying the CD by using it to boot on another PC ?
corrupt disk/u wrote the image incorrectly so it doesn't see a bootable cd/ etc
