Hi! I'm a newbie to the boards and was wondering if any of you experts can confirm this forensic (?) fact. Is it possible to see what has been printed out by just examining a laser printer's ribbon? Are impressions left on it like on a typewriter ribbon? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My clumsy mistake! It should have read toner cartridge. Would answer to query still be no? Thanks! As far as I understand, the toner cartridge in laser printers doesn't actually touch the paper as it goes through. The paper is charged electrically with a charge that is opposite of the toner and this is what attracts the toner onto the page.

Check out Wikipedia here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laser_printer), for a better answer.

Ripley, i can see where you got that kindof idea.. i was replacing the print rolls in a fax machone... and its pretty much carbon paper running through it... scary when i think of some of the info i've sent using it!
