It is a National Intelligence Model Level 2 unit committed to supporting the Constabulary?s Policing Plan and Control Strategy Priorities of combating Serious and Organised Crime Enterprises operating across and within Hertfordshire?s boundaries.

The Computer Crime Unit is part of the Serious and Organised Crime Group. The Unit provides high quality digital evidence recovery services to the Constabulary. It supports Level 2 operations targeting Organised Crime Enterprises. The Unit is the professional lead for all digital evidence recovery and network investigation matters within the Force.

Experienced computer forensic examiners are needed by the CCU team to fill current and projected vacancies. The role holder?s duties will require them to extract data in a forensically sound manner from a variety of digital devices. They will be required to analyse the recovered data and present the evidence discovered in clear and concise reports and give that evidence in court. All examinations performed will conform to Association Chief Police Officer (ACPO) Good Practice Guide for Computer-Based Electronic Evidence.

Applicants should have previous experience in forensic computer examination or of hands-on roles in the administration or security of computer networks. A recognised qualification in computing or equivalent experience is required. Previous experience of the judicial system, giving evidence in criminal matters or proven verbal presentation skills is required.

The team consists of both officers and staff and is supervised by a Detective Sergeant. To be successful, you will need a sound knowledge of how computers handle data, how they are constructed and operate. You will also be comfortable using different operating systems and capable of operating several forensic software suites. The ability to explain complex computing activity in plain language is very important.

Applicants will need to be aware of the various uses the Internet is put to by criminals and victims. This is necessary to advise non-technical investigators on opportunities for gathering evidence. You will need to troubleshoot computing difficulties and you will require a full driving licence. Training will be given in the specialist methods and equipment used by the Unit if not previously undertaken.

Due to the nature of some of the work the successful applicant may be exposed to text and images of a potentially distressing nature. Applicants will be subject to a psychological assessment and there is ongoing support for those working within the unit.
