Before I had to uninstall and reinstall my HP printer files My computer would boot directly up to the desk top bypassing the log on screen. Its been that way for about 4 years, long enough for me to not remember how or what settings I did and where these settings are. My wifes computer is set that way and I checked her settings and compared them to mine and see no difference. I went into the users configuration in the control panel and checked and unchecked the "Use The Welcome Screen" and "Use Fast User Switching". When I unchecked the "Use The Welcome Screen" the "Use Fast User Switching" would gray out and when I rebooted it would take me to the little screen that would ask for a password. I hope someone can help me. I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP2

Thanks
Allen

Not often people want to use the login screen.

Try the following:

Start > Run

Type "control userpasswords2" without the quotes, then press enter.

Make sure the option of "users must enter a username and password to use this computer", or there abouts, is ticked.
