Lightbulb Brilliant News For Future Birmingham City University Students

I have just been speaking to Shahid, the Computer Forensic Course Director at Birmingham City University.

It seems that he has achieved the impossible.

Shahid has now managed to gain official course accreditations for BOTH

Micro Systemation, (www.msab.com) - world leaders in Mobile Phone Forensics

    and

Guidance Software, (www.encase.com) - the world leader in Computer Forensics Software.

This means that students that take his degree course will not only gain their degree, they will also gain an industry accepted qualification in both computer and phone forensics.

This site will be updated soon, with the latest information - as you can see, they are very proactive.

I thought that this was absolutely brilliant until I heard that he is not happy with just this, because he also wants to bring in experts from the Phone, Computer and SatNav forensics fields to enhance the learning experience from the students.

I say Well Done to Shahid and the team at Birmingham City University.

Needless to say, we at Disklabs will be keen to ensure that we stay in close touch with the department and hopefully carry on contributing with their development.

Thats great news I have just asked on the Leeds Met Facebook group what our chances are of following suit. I really hope they can strike a deal too as it would add so much weight to the final degree.

    Carolan78,

As an employer, I cant think of a reason that I would employ a person from ANY other university. I dont know if that will help with your course, but it certainly should!

    Good luck either way.

    Regards,

    Simon

I am not holding my breath, it appears my post was deleted from the tutors facebook group. I am now concidering my options, I can not transfer to another uni because I have a family and my husbands job is in Yorkshire. I don't want to waste 3 years of study for something that isn't really going to be worth the paper it is on though! Stuck between a rock and a hard place springs to mind.

I would certainly be asking whoever it was 'why' your post was deleted from the Facebook page. Censorship like that helps no-one?

My advice is stick with it. Any degree is better than none. I am sure that Leeds Met want to move forward and I am sure that they will.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Regards,

    Simon

Slighty off topic, does anyone know if the 2 day .XRY courses are any good?

We send our people on them, but being honest, they came back saying that they hadnt learnt much. They did get a certificate though, (which seems to be all that matters in this line of work)?

Do I rate it, no. Do I rate the XACT course, ditto.

Sorry, but this is the feedback I get from my analysts.

    Regards,

    Simon

I assume your analysts have all used the software before tho. Are there any you would recommend?

My analysts are all experienced in the use of .XRY and .XACT, so I am sure that helps?

When we purchased our first .XRY kit, I was 'trained' how to use it over the phone. It took 5 mins. Now, for some reason, its a few days?

As for any other courses, my guys did the Oxygen course too, but were unimpressed about that one too.

I dont know of any others, perhaps Control F course? We havent done that one yet.

    Regards,

    Simon

Do companies generally send their staff on these sort of courses or would you suggest doing some in my spare time?
