Lightbulb Looking for as much info on forensic tool 'nikto'

    Please can someone help

I am currently a University student studying Forensic computing. I am looking for as much information on the tool 'Nikto' and how it is used in this field. This is a new tool that we have been asked to write an extensive report on. I am collecting as much information as possible, but if there are any experts out there that could contact me, I would be really grateful. I have used search engines to find as much info as possible but cant find how it relates to FC or what makes this unique to any other tools

    Many thanks

I must congratulate you as I have never heard of that tool?

Be very wary because the tools from next year will have to be auditted and useable by companies certified to ISO17025.

Rumour has it that if you are not using auditted software, then it wont be useable for any criminal cases, (neither prosecution or defence).

Can you post a link to the software please?

    Thanks,

    Simon

Nikto has been around for maybe 10 years now.
it's a webserver scanner to detect vulnerabilities. not sure how this fits into forensics. it's more of a server admin security / hacker pen test tool along the lines of nessus.

These are my personal views and in no way reflect that of Disklabs Computer Forensics
