There are lots of variant of Remote Forensics. Some are excellent and truly remote, some require user interaction, some are terrrible.
Good post though and good link, thanks,
Simon
As a first year mature student at De Montfort Uni I'm a bit unsure whether my course is a good one or not, but one thing I have covered for a presentation and essay was on 'Remote Forensics'.
It seems it has been used for awhile now by the FBI and our government have said that it will be used here (if not already being used).
In the States the FBI use a program that has been given the name of 'Magic Lantern' by the media although the FBI call it CIPAV, which stands for Computer and Internet Protocol Address Verifier. It is in fact much the same as malware that can infect unsecure systems and sends back to the originator all information that is on the computer (such as passwords). Whilst the computer is live the originator is able to remotely search for incriminating evidence!
There is a great story of its use at this link, I hope you find it as interesting as I did!
